Cholafied comes from the mind of an LA kid who grew up in the 90's. It's a throwback to Chola gangster style: "Sharpied" eyebrows, dark lipliner, and the fumes from a can of Aqua Net. It's a product of LA where subcultures, celebrity obsession, street art, and stupidity are rolled up together like one of those bacon wrapped hot dogs sold on Hollywood Blvd.
In one day Cholafied.com had spread to over 160 countries. The site had half a million page views, 20,000 Tumblr followers, 90,000 reblogs, 60,000 Facebook shares, and in the Twittersphere the word "cholafied" entered the lexicon. It was featured on news sites, gossip blogs, lifestyle blogs, and design blogs. Buzzfeed dubbed it “your new favorite Tumblr”. Celebrities started messaging the site to be cholafied. NBC did a news segment for their morning show, art galleries reached out to showcase the images, CNN asked for an interview, and even actress, Emma Stone mentioned the blog during a Newsweek interview for Spiderman.
